It occured to me, seconds after posting, that 'articulatures' may not in fact be a real word.
Further research has proven that it is, in fact, not.
It will be edited for the printed version.
But shall remain posted here unedited.  Forevermore.  As a constant reminder of my shame.

EDIT
The polls say keep it.
So I shall.

    1. Not bone ones, but there is an inner wiring on most of them.
It depends on what kind of doll they are.

  2. Well that's the most she's ever talked at once... Orio is a nerd.

  3. I like it; you could just as well keep it. Neologisms! Lewis Carroll invented the word chortle, so you can claim articulatures!

  4. Or use articulations for a general noun and articulatures for a kind of connectors, like ligatures.

  5. Are you sure that "comprehensive" was the word you wanted in the first panel? It means full, complete, or exhaustive. Which the drawings may well be, but the previous panel had me expecting "comprehensible," which means understandable (as in, she can comprehend the drawings but not the language).

On the other hand, I think "articulatures" makes sense in the comic, even though it isn't a real word. It reminds me of "armature," which in sculpture is "a metal framework on which a sculpture is molded with clay or similar material."

    1. I have to consider comprehensive vs. comprehensible. My intended meaning was that the works were complete/detailed. But I will have to think on it...

      Regardless, thank you!

  6. "Articulatures", like "shenanigi", is a word the world is better off for having. Keep it I say! If it sounds real and takes a dictionary to prove otherwise I should say it is worth establishing.

  7. Yes, keep 'Articulatures'! Even if it's just as a word found only in your setting. It's a writer's privelege to make up new words when the old words aren't enough, and it also makes sense that a doll civilization would have such a word.

Also, Wossname begins to redeem himself, hooray! His blatant disregard for Orio's feelings/stated desires in earlier pages was worrisome.

    1. I agree. It makes sense that a race of doll people would have language to describe their unique anatomy. It's like the old myth that the Inuit have dozens of words for snow. There's more than a grain of truth to the idea behind it. A living language grows to fit the needs of its people.

It's intuitive in english and sensible in context. And you have enough named elements like Odds in the story that it doesn't stick out either. I'd keep it.

  8. Also have you taken up some sort of heavy stimulant habit? I swear I've only been away for something like a week and there's 4-5 pages up. Simply marvelous.

  9. Also weighing in to keep articulatures- it makes sense in context and feels fully appropriate here. Kudos for inventiveness. ;)
