This reminds me of a graphic novel I read a few years ago about puppets who get stickers for being generally good and the stickers determine your worth essentially and everyone has this box of stickers but one, and the stickers don't stick to this one and his paint is old and chipped so he thinks he's broken and sets out to find the man who made all of the puppets. It was really beautiful and I loved it. Wish I could find it again.
